A mountaintop town with an odd name
Arab was started in the 1840s as Thompson's Village. When a son of the founder sent in three name choices, Arad, Ink and Bird, the Postal Service recorded the name as Arab in 1882, and the town incorporated in 1892.[2]
The city lies on Brindlee Mountain at about 1,040 feet, on the Tennessee Valley Divide, and it reaches into both Marshall and Cullman counties. Many properties up here are home lots and small acreage, which can suit barndominiums, shops and garages. How a building fits depends on your land and your plans.[2]

Is a barndominium a good idea on a hilltop lot near Arab?
Some owners like a barndominium for a home with a large shop beneath one roof. Slope, drainage and utilities on a mountain lot all matter, so plan those with the design.[2]
