County seat with lake country close by

Centre had 3,587 residents in the 2020 Census, a 2.8 percent increase from 2010.  Cherokee County was established in 1836, and the county seat moved to Centre in 1844 from Cedar Bluff.  The town is named for its central location in the county.[2]

The city limits extend north to Weiss Lake, a man-made reservoir on the Coosa River.  The lake calls itself the Crappie Capital of the World, so boats and fishing gear are part of life here.[2]

For many properties near a lake, a metal building can store a boat, trailers and equipment.  If you are planning a shop, a boathouse style cover or a lake cabin, it depends on your lot and local rules.[2]
