Questions from Chelsea homeowners

General information.  Every project is different, so call us about yours.

Is a barndominium a good idea on a few acres near Double Oak Mountain?

Many people choose a barndominium for an open floor plan, a steel frame and a shop attached.  Slope and drainage matter on hilly ground, so talk through your lot before settling on a plan.[2]

What kind of workshop works for a family that is growing?

A pole barn or steel shop can be scaled to your budget and sized for your needs.  Think about what you will store now and what you may want later.[3]

Can I use metal roofing on a house in a new subdivision?

Metal roofing and siding are used on homes as well as barns.  Check with your neighborhood covenants and the city for any rules before you choose.[2]

Do Shelby County farm buildings differ from suburban ones?

Farm buildings tend to focus on equipment, hay and animals, while suburban ones lean toward shops and hobby space.  The same engineering approach applies to both.[3]

A young city that grew fast

Chelsea was first incorporated in May 1995, and that incorporation was dissolved because of procedural errors.  The city was successfully reincorporated on March 1, 1996.[2]

From 2,949 people in 2000, Chelsea grew to 10,183 in 2010 and 14,982 in 2020.  When a place changes this quickly, families often look for room to build, and a barndominium or a workshop on a larger lot is one way people use it.[2]
