Metal buildings for Cleveland farms and Locust Fork ridges

Cleveland is a small Blount County town on Route 231 that sits close to the Locust Fork.  Land here runs from town lots to open ground outside the city limits.

Cleveland had 1,245 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 7.88 square miles.  The town was settled in the 1820s and was incorporated in 1964.  It was named for President Grover Cleveland when its post office was established.[2]

With that much room inside the town limits, many properties in Cleveland are large lots or open land rather than tight city parcels.  If you are planning a barn, shop or equipment shed, that extra space is often what makes a pole barn practical.[2]

Blount County also has plenty of open outdoor land beyond the town, with the Locust Fork drawing canoeists and kayakers.  A metal building is one way to protect tools, boats and vehicles for people who spend time out there.[3]

Cleveland details

  • Before it was named Cleveland, the settlement was known as Dry Creek Crossroads and then Blackwood's Crossroads.[2]

  • US 231 meets Alabama 79 just north of the center of town.[2]

  • The Swann Covered Bridge, listed on the National Register, crosses the river just west of Cleveland.[2]

  • The Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River flows northwest of town.[2]

  • Blount County is known as the Covered Bridge Capital of Alabama, and Swann is one of its three remaining covered bridges.[3]

What Cleveland property owners ask

General information.  Every project is different, so call us about yours.

What size lot do I need for a pole barn in Cleveland?

There is no single answer, because it depends on the building and how you plan to use it.  Call the town or Blount County permitting office about setbacks, then call us to talk about layout.[2]

Would a metal shop work near the Locust Fork?

Many people near a river keep boats, ATVs and tools under cover.  Check local rules for land near water, and then we can talk about a shop that fits your plans.[3]

Commercial metal buildings

Can I build a barndominium on land outside Cleveland town limits?

Many rural properties in Blount County are used that way, but it depends on your parcel and what the county requires.  Start with the county permitting office, then reach out to us about the design.[2]

Residential metal buildings

Is metal roofing a good match for an older Cleveland farmhouse?

Metal roofing and siding is one option RBC offers for houses and outbuildings.  You can look at colors with the visualizer before you decide.[2]
