Life beside the biggest lake in Alabama
Lake Guntersville covers 69,100 acres, is described as the largest lake in Alabama, and was formed by the TVA Guntersville Dam on the Tennessee River. It hosted the Bassmaster Classic in 2014 and 2020.[2]
Around a lake like this, many properties are lake lots, fishing getaways and retirement homes, and owners often want covered space for boats, trailers and tools. A steel garage or pole barn can fill that need, and a barndominium is another option for a full-time home. Check lot size, setbacks and shoreline rules with the right offices first.[2]

Lake country building questions
General information. Every project is different, so call us about yours.
Can I get covered boat storage near the water?
A pole barn or steel garage with a tall door can be designed for a boat and trailer. Tell us the size of your boat and we can talk through clearances.[2]
Is a barndominium a fit for a lake home?
Some lake owners like the open interior and the metal exterior of a barndominium. Lot shape, utilities and any shoreline limits are all part of the plan.[2]
Does a metal roof make sense for a house near the water?
Metal roofing is a common choice for homes and outbuildings, and the color visualizer helps compare looks. Ask us about trim and panel options.[2]
