Railroad town with a historic Main Street

Steel buildings for Hartselle and its historic downtown

Hartselle began with the railroad and still has a historic main street.  RBC Buildings serves it from Blountsville along the Interstate 65 corridor.

A town the railroad built

Hartselle was founded in 1869 when the South and North Alabama Railroad arrived, and it is named for railroad owner George Hartsell.  A fire in 1916 destroyed most of the oldest buildings, and the Downtown Commercial Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 22, 1999.[2]

A town with a historic core and highway frontage often has older storefronts that need roof or siding work, and newer lots that need commercial buildings.  Metal roofing and siding can be used on existing buildings, and steel suits new shops and storage.  Check historic district requirements with the city first.[2]

General information.  Every project is different, so call us about yours.

Can a metal roof go on a building in a historic district?

It depends on local guidelines, so ask the city before you choose a roof.  We can talk through panel styles and colors once you know the rules.[2]

Metal roofing and siding

Is Interstate 65 frontage a good place for a steel commercial building?

Highway frontage is a common place for shops, offices and service buildings.  Access, parking and zoning shape what fits.[2]

Commercial metal buildings

Can I build a barndominium inside the city?

It depends on zoning and lot size, so ask the city of Hartselle.  Land just outside town may allow more freedom.[2]

Residential metal buildings

Can I preview siding colors for a storefront?

Use the RBC color visualizer to try combinations of panels and trim.  It makes it easier to talk with partners or neighbors.[2]
