Heflin is the Cleburne County seat, a railroad town on Interstate 20 near the Georgia line. The county is home to Alabama's highest natural point.

Heflin had 3,431 residents in the 2020 Census. It was first settled in 1882 as a railroad station on the line from Atlanta and was incorporated in 1886. It became the county seat in 1906, when the seat moved from Edwardsville.[2]
Interstate 20 runs through the southern part of the city, and US 78 also passes through. Heflin is about 76 miles east of Birmingham and about 72 miles west of Atlanta.[2]
