Henagar sits high on Sand Mountain in northern DeKalb County, a rural city known for an annual potato festival.

A mountaintop farm town with a long memory
Henagar was first settled around 1855 and takes its name from early settler George Henegar. A post office opened in 1878, a public school was built in 1901, and the city incorporated in 1965. In 1906 a tornado destroyed all fifteen stores and houses in the town, and it was rebuilt.[2]
The city covers 22.64 square miles at about 1,486 feet, and its 2020 population was 2,292, which works out to roughly 101 people per square mile. That is plenty of room for acreage, and DeKalb County leads the state in agricultural sales. If you are planning farm or shop space, steel can be a practical choice.[2,3]
