Hueytown racing shops, garages and steel buildings

Hueytown is known for iron history and for NASCAR's Alabama Gang.  RBC Buildings serves western Jefferson County with shops, garages and steel buildings.

Iron, coal and racing

Hueytown shifted from farming to heavy industry, with the Woodward Iron Company founded in 1881 and coal mining starting around 1900.  The final blast furnace closed in 1973, and the city incorporated on December 3, 1959.[2]

The city is also tied to the Alabama Gang of NASCAR, including Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Davey Allison, Neil Bonnett and Red Farmer.  People with a racing hobby often want a well-lit workshop, and a steel building can be a practical answer.[2]

Hueytown notes

  • Hueytown had 16,776 residents in the 2020 Census.[2]

  • The city covers about 20.1 square miles at an elevation of 548 feet.[2]

  • Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive honors the Alabama Gang racers.[2]

  • In 1992 the Hueytown Hum drew national attention, and investigators linked it to a mine ventilation fan.[2]

  • Interstate 20/59 exits 112 and 115 serve the city.[2]

What Hueytown owners ask

General information.  Every project is different, so call us about yours.

What size shop do hobby racers usually build?

It varies with the cars, tools and lift you plan to use.  We scale pole barns and steel shops to your budget, so tell us how you work.  Check lot limits with the city first.[2]

Pole barns

Can a steel shop be insulated, wired and plumbed?

Yes, RBC does turnkey work from skeleton to an insulated, wired and plumbed building.  Talk with us about what your shop needs.[2]

Services

Does Hueytown's larger land area leave room for a home and shop?

The city covers around 20 square miles, so some parcels may suit a barndominium or a shop beside a home.  It depends on zoning and your land.[2]

Residential metal buildings

Is a metal roof reasonable for a home in a storm-prone area?

Tornados have struck western Jefferson County before, and many owners look at stronger roof options.  Metal roofing is one, and it depends on your structure.[2]
