Named for iron, known for a cafe

Irondale incorporated on October 19, 1887, and takes its name from Irondale Furnace.  Author Fannie Flagg set her 1987 novel in Irondale, drawing on the real Irondale Cafe.[2]

The city covers about 17.5 square miles at an elevation of 922 feet.  It includes the Eternal Word Television Network and the oldest restaurant in Alabama, Golden Rule Bar-B-Q, founded in 1891.  Properties like those often call for steel for broadcast, restaurant, retail or storage uses.[2]
