A coal and railroad town grown up
Jasper was settled around 1815 and incorporated on August 18, 1886, the year two railroads reached it. By 1891 it had six coal mines, two sandstone quarries and 400 coke ovens.[2]
Today it is a city of 14,572 residents and the seat of Walker County. A mix of downtown, commercial and rural land means many different building needs.[2]
