Planned villages and wooded lots

Mountain Brook was developed by Robert Jemison Jr. beginning in 1929, with plans by landscape architect Warren H. Manning.  The design called for estate-sized lots along winding roads and three villages: English Village, Mountain Brook Village and Crestline Village.[2]

About 92 percent of the city is under tree cover, according to the source.  On larger wooded lots, projects such as a detached garage, a studio or a new roof are common ideas, and local design review and permitting are worth checking first.[2]
