Muscle Shoals had 16,275 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 16.8 square miles. It is part of the Florence and Muscle Shoals metropolitan area, which has 147,317 people.[2]
FAME Studios, founded by Rick Hall, recorded artists such as Percy Sledge, Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding. Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, started by the rhythm section known as the Swampers, worked with Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and the Rolling Stones.[2]
