At the foot of the mountains
Steel buildings for Piedmont and the Terrapin Creek foothills
Piedmont is a small city in the foothills of the Appalachians, with mountain and creek country close by. Its name means foot of the mountains.

A mill town in the foothills
Piedmont had 4,787 residents in the 2020 Census and covers parts of Calhoun and Cherokee counties. It started in the early 1840s at a crossroads of post roads and was first named Cross Plains. It was renamed Piedmont in 1888.[2]
The Standard Coosa-Thatcher Cotton Mill operated from 1892 to 1995 and was the town's main employer. Mill towns often have older industrial buildings and sites, and some owners look at steel buildings for storage or new commercial use.[2]
Outside the center, the foothills, Terrapin Creek and Talladega National Forest bring outdoor land use. A shed, shop or barn is a common building for people who live there.[2]
