Pleasant Grove grew from four communities: Frog Pond, Lizard Ridge, Cottage Hill and Pleasant Grove itself. The area was first homesteaded in September 1836, and the city incorporated on January 16, 1934.[2]
Incorporation came so the town could qualify for federal funding for a water system, since nearby coal mines were depleting groundwater. The city was damaged by tornadoes in 1956, 1977, 1998 and 2011, so some owners may think about sturdy roofing.[2]
