Questions from rural Madison County

General information.  Every project is different, so call us about yours.

Is a pole barn a sensible choice for a few acres near Toney?

For many rural lots, a pole barn is a practical way to get covered storage or a shop scaled to your budget.  The right size and layout depend on what you plan to keep inside and how the land lies.[2,3]

Can a barndominium work on open land like the flat parts of northwest Madison County?

Many people use a barndominium to combine living space and a large shop under one roof, and open acreage gives room to place it.  Talk through the design, utilities and your goals before you settle on a plan.[3]

Residential metal buildings

Who should I check with before building outside a city limit?

Toney is unincorporated, so it is a good idea to ask the Madison County building or permitting office what applies to your parcel.  We can then help you shape a building around what you learn.[2]

What about a metal roof for an older farmhouse or outbuilding?

Metal roofing and siding can be used on a new building or as a replacement on an existing one.  A color visualizer helps you compare looks before you decide.[2]

A crossroads community with room to build

Toney is an unincorporated community in northwestern Madison County, and it is part of the Huntsville-Decatur area.  The county as a whole is known for aerospace and defense work, but its northern and western parts are described as flatter than the mountainous southeast.[2,3]

That kind of flat, open ground is what many people in places like Toney are working with.  If you are planning a pole barn, a workshop, or a barndominium on a few acres, level land can make the layout questions simpler.  It still depends on your project and your lot.[2,3]
