Valley Head sits at about 1,063 feet and incorporated in 1922, though it also appeared as incorporated in the 1890 Census. Wikipedia calls it the coolest place in the state, with a typical winter running about 18 degrees cooler than coastal Alabama and about 56 freezing mornings.[2]
Winston Place, a house first built as a two-story I-house after attorney William O. Winston moved to DeKalb County in 1838, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Valley Head questions
General information. Every project is different, so call us about yours.
Does cold winter weather matter when choosing a metal roof?
Metal roofing and siding are used in many climates. Your project details matter, so talk through insulation and roof design with a builder. RBC can go over what is available.[2]
Can a steel building be insulated for a cooler mountain valley?
Is a pole barn a fit near an older historic property?
A pole barn can serve as a shop or storage building at a respectful distance from an older home. Appearance matters, so look at colors with the color visualizer.[3]
Should I check with anyone before building in a historic area?
It is a good general step to check with the town or county building office. They can tell you whether anything applies to your parcel.[3]
