A hillside city with a Roman temple in its name
The city was incorporated in 1950 and had 39,102 residents in the 2020 Census. It lies along U.S. Route 31, about 7 miles north of downtown Birmingham, and covers just over 20 square miles.[2]
The name comes from George B. Ward's Vestavia estate on Shades Mountain, a 1925 mansion patterned after the Temple of Vesta in Rome. With older homes on sloped lots, many owners here think first about reroofing, new siding and a well placed garage or studio instead of a big barn.[2]

Roofing and building questions on the mountain
General information. Every project is different, so call us about yours.
Is a standing metal roof a good fit for an older Vestavia Hills house?
Metal roofing is used on many styles of home, from traditional to modern. The right profile and color depend on your house, and the color visualizer can show you the look before you decide.[2]
Can a steel building be placed on a sloped hillside lot?
Many properties on a mountain ridge have grade changes, and site preparation is a normal part of the conversation. How a building sits on your slope depends on the land, so describe your lot and we will talk it through.[2]
I want a detached studio or garage that matches my home. Where do I begin?
Start with the size and use you have in mind, then look at colors and trim. Checking with the city building or permitting office early is a sensible general step.[2]
Do you have price lists for roofing materials before I call?
RBC publishes price lists for items such as metal sheathing, metal trim, doors and insulation, and prices are subject to change. The materials page is a good place to start, and a phone call fills in the rest.[2]
