A very old town in open country

Woodville was settled around 1815 by Henry Derrick and established by an act of the legislature on December 13, 1819.  It is named for early residents Richard and Annie Wood and is the oldest town in Jackson County.[2]

It briefly served as the Decatur County seat in 1821 and 1822.  The 2020 census counted 746 residents, and U.S. Route 72 links it with Scottsboro and Huntsville.[2]

The Paint Rock River is nearby, and the Cumberland Plateau lies to the north.  In a rural place like this, a barn, hay shed or workshop is often the first building people think about.[2]
